In a surprising turn, the regional hub drops out of the Top Ten for Quality of Life, while Udine skyrockets 11 positions, clinching the numero uno spot in Italy. This revelation comes courtesy of the latest survey from Il Sole 24 Ore, giving us the lowdown on the most livable regions.
Udine’s meteoric rise is no small feat, only making it to the top tier three times since 1990 – specifically in 2016, 2020, and 2021. Meanwhile, Trieste, once a podium regular, finds itself settling at 12th place, a far cry from its former glory.
Beyond the top ten, Trieste (12th) and Pordenone (14th) fall short, with Gorizia taking the 28th spot among Italian provinces.
Trieste still manages to snag the top spot for Culture and Leisure and secures the second position for Business and Employment. However, the city’s hopes are dashed by a dismal 91st rank in the Justice and Safety category, with a lukewarm 57th position for Environment and Services. On the flip side, Udine’s surge in the Quality of Life ranking, scrutinizing 107 Italian provinces through 90 statistical indicators, is powered by some standout performances.
Udine notches a podium position for Women’s Quality of Life and lands in eighth place for Children’s Quality of Life. The province boasts the highest number of gyms, pools, and wellness centers. It’s a force to be reckoned with, claiming the fourth position in the “Justice and Safety” category, thanks to rock-bottom rates of fires, cybercrimes, and car thefts. Additionally, Udine shines in keeping family incomes (ISEE) above 7,000 euros and maintaining a low rate of business failures.
Meanwhile, Bologna continues its reign, securing the second spot and leading in the “Demography, Health, and Society” category with its stellar education levels. Trento, a previous champ in the Sportsmanship Index and Urban Ecosystem 2023, grabs the third spot. These results not only turn heads but also underscore the consistent excellence of these regions.
