Residents and visitors will be able to visit many of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s state museums free of charge on Sunday, August 2, as Italy marks the latest edition of Domenica al Museo, the nationwide initiative that grants free admission to state-run museums and archaeological sites on the first Sunday of every month.
The program, launched by Italy’s Ministry of Culture more than a decade ago, gives visitors an opportunity to explore the country’s cultural heritage without paying an entrance fee.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia, participating sites include some of the region’s most important historical and archaeological attractions, such as the Miramare Castle Museum in Trieste, the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia, the National Archaeological Museum of Cividale del Friuli, and the Paleochristian Museum of Aquileia, along with other state-managed museums and archaeological areas.
The initiative comes during the peak of the summer tourism season, when the region welcomes thousands of visitors drawn by its blend of history, art and seaside destinations. Organizers encourage visitors to check opening hours and any reservation requirements before traveling, as procedures may vary between sites.
The monthly free-entry program is held across Italy, allowing access to hundreds of state museums and archaeological parks. While admission is free, some of the country’s most popular museums may still require advance reservations or limit visitor numbers to manage crowds.
The next Domenica al Museo will take place on the first Sunday of September.
