Italy marked Labor Day on on Friday, 1 May, with a nationwide public holiday known as Festa dei Lavoratori, or Primo Maggio, an annual observance dedicated to workers and their rights.
This year, the holiday fell on a Friday, prompting the closure of schools and public offices and creating a long weekend for many across the country.
Celebrated in more than 80 countries, May 1 commemorates the labor movement and recognizes the social and economic advances achieved through trade union efforts. In Italy, the day is often marked by demonstrations, concerts, and public gatherings.
In the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trieste, the occasion will be observed with a traditional procession that starts in the neighborhood of Campo San Giacomo at 9 am and makes its way through the city streets to Piazza Unità, drawing participants from local unions and civic groups.
