A free public course on horticulture and urban green spaces will begin Wednesday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Via Modiano 5, as part of the “Orti e Verde Urbano 2026” training program organized by Bioest Association and Orti Comuni Trieste.
The opening session will feature Francesco Panepinto speaking on how urban greenery can help mitigate climate change and protect public health, drawing on Trieste’s experience.
The program, supported by the Municipality of Trieste and developed in collaboration with Legambiente, Associazione Il Ponte and the local Beekeepers’ Consortium, aims to provide practical tools for promoting social agriculture and sustainable urban gardening.
The course includes four two-hour modules combining lectures, discussion and practical activities, with instruction led by experts in agriculture, botany and green space management. Participants attending at least three modules will receive a certificate.
Open to anyone interested in gardening — from balcony growers to community garden advocates — the initiative focuses not only on cultivation but also on the broader role of shared green spaces in urban life.
Tiziana Cimolino, a naturalist with Bioest, said the program has built a loyal community over the years, turning each meeting into “an agora of ideas and good practices” centered on urban greenery and environmental awareness.
Participation is free.
