At City Hall in Trieste on Wednesday morning, local officials honored dozens of sailors under 35 who achieved national and international success during the 2025 competitive season, highlighting the region’s enduring strength in the sport.
The ceremony, held in the municipal council chamber, was led by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and sports councillor Elisa Lodi, alongside Adriano Filippi, president of the regional committee of the Federazione Italiana Vela.
The athletes represented some of the area’s most prominent sailing clubs, including Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, Circolo della Vela Muggia, Società Triestina Sport del Mare, Circolo Nautico Triestina Sirena, Società Nautica Pietas Julia and Yacht Club Adriaco.
City officials praised the sailors for earning podium finishes at world, European and Italian championships in 2025, achievements that reflect both individual discipline and a deeply rooted local sailing culture. According to federation data cited during the event, competitors from Friuli Venezia Giulia secured 73 world podiums, 20 European placements and 80 national titles over the past year.
Speakers emphasized the demanding training behind those results and described competitive sport as a formative experience that teaches resilience through both victories and defeats.
In presenting the awards, the mayor commended the young athletes’ dedication and the role of local clubs in supporting their development, calling their accomplishments a point of pride for the city’s long maritime tradition.
