The Italian Coast Guard rescued a young surfer on Tuesday evening after he was found clinging to a buoy off the coast of Sistiana, according to local authorities.
The intervention began after an emergency call reached Italy’s 112 emergency line, prompting the Trieste Coast Guard’s operations center to dispatch the patrol vessel CP 881 to the area. Despite fading light and limited visibility at dusk, the crew located the man near the cliffs of Duino, holding onto a boundary buoy.

The surfer, an Italian citizen in his early 20s, appeared to be in good condition when found. Officials said he showed no signs of hypothermia and did not require medical treatment, despite the season’s characteristically cold water temperatures.
He was brought safely to the port of Sistiana. The patrol crew also retrieved his surfboard to ensure the safety of other vessels and prevent potential hazards at sea, the Coast Guard said.
No further details were released about how the surfer became stranded, and the authorities did not report any injuries.
