On Monday, November 17, the city of Trieste is joining the global community in observing the 17th World Prematurity Day, an annual event aimed at raising awareness about preterm births, defined as those occurring before the 37th week of gestation.

In recognition of the occasion, the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza della Borsa will be illuminated in purple, a color symbolic of the fight against premature birth. The initiative is organized in collaboration with local organizations including Scricciolo OdV, the Burlo Garofalo Foundation, the Italian Society of Neonatology (SIN), and the Vivere ETS Association.

The event drew participation from a wide range of local leaders, highlighting community support for families of preterm infants.

The annual observance serves to underscore both the challenges faced by preterm infants and the critical work of healthcare providers who support them, while fostering public awareness about neonatal health.
