Researchers, health-care professionals, technology experts and policymakers gathered in Trieste on Tuesday for an event examining how artificial intelligence is reshaping medical research, diagnosis and treatment.
The event, titled “AI 4 Health – Artificial Intelligence in Research, Diagnosis and Care,” was organized by ANSA in collaboration with the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA). It brought together leading figures from Italy’s scientific and public-health communities to discuss both the opportunities and the challenges presented by rapid advances in AI.
Speakers highlighted the promise of predictive medicine — the ability to anticipate and manage disease progression through advanced data modeling — as well as the importance of maintaining ethical standards, protecting patient data and ensuring equitable access to digital health tools.
Regional and academic representatives emphasized Trieste’s growing role as a hub for scientific innovation, noting that the city’s research institutions and biomedical centers are positioned to shape national and European efforts in the field. Participants also addressed regulatory and organizational questions, including how Europe can balance innovation with privacy and oversight, and how health systems can integrate new technology without disrupting core services.
