Interviews: Maria Miccoli, representative of the Associazione Coro Amici per Caso; Massimo Tognolli, councillor for Social Policies, Comune di Trieste
The city of Trieste has formalized a partnership with the “Coro Amici per Caso” association to promote social inclusion and well-being through music. The agreement was presented at a press conference on Thursday morning in Sala Tergeste, attended by Massimo Tognolli, Trieste’s councilor for Social Policies, Massimiliano Capitanio, coordinator of the Habitat Microaree program, and members of the choir.
The collaboration aims to organize musical activities for vulnerable populations, including the elderly and users of municipal social services, in coordination with the Habitat Microaree program, which focuses on 14 local micro-areas across the city.
“Providing concrete support to people in fragile conditions — physically, cognitively, and socially — is a key responsibility of the Social Policies Department,” Mr. Tognolli said. “We provide economic and healthcare support, but people also need emotional stimuli. This partnership addresses that need by promoting art and culture through music.”
Mr. Tognolli highlighted that the choir’s approach aligns with the city’s goals and allows for better planning of musical activities across Trieste. “I want to thank ‘Coro Amici per Caso’ for their sensitivity and availability,” he said, noting that the collaboration fits seamlessly with the Habitat Microaree project, a program considered unique in Italy for its local reach.
Mr. Capitanio of Habitat Microaree emphasized the choir’s positive impact. “Their performances bring cheer and vitality and animate parts of the community. This initiative offers another way to foster relationships and bring moments of serenity and well-being to residents.”
Maria Miccoli, representing the choir, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “We have always supported people in vulnerable situations and will continue working to bring joy to those less fortunate,” she said.
The agreement, which is valid for one year and renewable, outlines plans to:
- Organize musical events within facilities for the elderly and disabled, as well as during Habitat Microaree community events, such as holiday celebrations;
- Conduct public concerts and initiatives to strengthen local cohesion and community identity;
- Design and lead musical workshops for adults and seniors within the micro-areas to promote social integration and well-being.
The choir will actively participate in the planning of activities, while Habitat Microaree will provide logistical and organizational support based on available resources. The partnership does not involve financial obligations for either party and underscores a shared commitment to building a more connected community while recognizing the role of cultural associations in promoting social well-being.
