Regional authorities met with union representatives on Wednesday afternoon to address the unfolding crisis surrounding the Tirso manufacturing plant in Muggia, following the abrupt withdrawal of food company Roncadin from acquisition talks.
In a joint statement, Sergio Emidio Bini, Regional Councillor for Economic Development, and Alessia Rosolen, Regional Councillor for Labor, expressed concern over Roncadin’s unexpected decision, which they said came after nearly a year of constructive dialogue. The withdrawal, they noted, complicates efforts to preserve the industrial future of the site and protect local jobs.
“The Region has worked closely with Confindustria Alto Adriatico to provide concrete responses to all of Roncadin’s formal requests,” Bini and Rosolen said. “Our goal was to support the acquisition of Tirso and ensure the site’s continued industrial use, along with the safeguarding of its workforce. Roncadin’s decision to fully exit the operation, without prior notice, places us in a very difficult position.”
Despite the setback, regional officials stressed their commitment to exploring all available avenues to protect employees and find a sustainable solution for the site. The meeting with union leaders was convened in response to growing concern over the fate of the plant and its workers following Roncadin’s departure from negotiations.
The future of the Tirso facility—and the employees affected by the stalled acquisition—remains uncertain as local authorities seek alternative strategies to resolve the crisis.
