A new mural featuring two giraffes, a mother and her calf, alongside a child offering them lilies, was unveiled Thursday on the main facade of the Burlo Garofolo maternal and pediatric hospital in Trieste.

The work, by artist and decorator Giulio Masieri, was designed to evoke themes of care, listening and welcome, and to create a more welcoming environment for children and their families arriving at the hospital.

Riccardo Riccardi, the regional health councilor, said the project was part of a broader effort to make healthcare spaces more attentive to the experience of young patients.

“The Burlo is a reference center for pediatrics, maternity and women’s health,” Riccardi said, adding that the hospital’s environment was an important part of the care experience.

The mural is part of a broader project supported by Edilimpianti Trieste, a company within Edil Group, with an estimated value of about €100,000. The work includes improvements and safety measures in several outdoor areas, including the embankment between the hospital and the P1 parking lot, where a public green area will be created, as well as walls, fencing and areas near the Cottur cycle path.

The project aims to improve both the appearance and usability of the hospital grounds for patients, families and visitors.
