Interview: Serena Tonel – Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Economic Policies, Comune di Trieste; Nadia Sollazzo – Psychologist at the Punto di Ascolto Antimobbing

The annual 2025 report from the Punto di Ascolto Antimobbing, a local support service for victims of workplace harassment, was presented on Friday at the Sala Giunta of the Trieste city hall.

The service, supported by the Regional Government of Friuli Venezia Giulia and managed by the regional chapter of Associazione Nazionale Oltre Le Frontiere (ANOLF), operates in partnership with the city, which provides the office space.

Since its inception three years ago, the Punto di Ascolto has received more than 100 requests for assistance, registering 102 contacts in 2025 alone. The figures point to both a persistent presence of workplace harassment and increased awareness among workers about available support measures.

The data were presented at a press conference attended by Trieste’s Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Economic Policies, Serena Tonel; Ahmed Faghi Elmi, president of ANOLF Friuli Venezia Giulia; and Nadia Sollazzo, a psychologist with the Punto di Ascolto.

According to the report, women were the most affected group, accounting for 57 percent of cases, particularly among those over 51 years old. However, male participation also increased, especially among workers aged 31 to 40, rising from 4 percent to 13 percent.

Most incidents occurred in the private sector (71 percent), with a significant share involving permanent employees (78 percent). The public sector accounted for 29 percent of cases, reflecting the structure of Trieste’s local economy and institutions.

Age-related trends emerged as well. Workers over 41 years old reported harassment often linked to family responsibilities, maternity, or caregiving duties. Younger workers cited limited career advancement, denied requests, and organizational challenges.

In her remarks, Deputy Mayor Tonel emphasized the importance of collaboration between local entities. “The anti-mobbing office is a crucial service for monitoring workplace quality in our territory,” she said. “It provides a strategic tool for public administrations to identify organizational challenges and implement corrective policies.”

Ahmed Faghi Elmi described the service’s mission: “Our goal is to offer concrete support to employees facing distress, harassment, or conflict at work, through professional consultations and practical tools for resolution. Workplace harassment is a significant issue that requires a shared commitment from all parties.”

The Punto di Ascolto’s multidisciplinary team includes a reception specialist, a labor lawyer, a psychotherapist, and a medico-legal expert, providing an integrated approach tailored to individual cases.

“The protection of workers’ rights and organizational well-being requires interventions that foster healthy, inclusive, and respectful work environments,” said psychologist Nadia Sollazzo. “Raising awareness of this service is essential to reach everyone experiencing workplace difficulties.”

Located at Via Capitelli 15 in Trieste, the Punto di Ascolto Antimobbing is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The service is free, confidential, and can be accessed anonymously.
