Muggia Castle has opened its doors to the public for the first time since it was purchased and is now owned by Culture Arti e Saperi Srl. The event, part of the regional initiative “Castelli Aperti,” runs through Saturday, March 28, and all day Sunday, March 29.

Federica Alessio, the castle’s owner and the driving force behind the project, is personally guiding visitors through the seaside fortress. Tours are scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m., and on Sunday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. The last group enters at 6 p.m. More information is available at www.castellodimuggia.it/eventi.

Ms. Alessio, a native of Trieste who currently lives in the United States, told us in an interview that the castle has always been meaningful to her, as she was married there. In recent months, she launched Culture Arti e Saperi Srl in collaboration with the Alessio Ge Foundation. During the weekend event, she is leading visitors on guided tours that explore both the history and architectural features of the castle.

“Castelli Aperti” is organized by the Consorzio per la Salvaguardia dei Castelli Storici del Friuli Venezia Giulia and offers public access to historic castles throughout the region. The initiative takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn, allowing visitors to see both public castles and privately owned estates that are not normally open to the public.

Muggia Castle is located at Calle dei Lauri, 7.
