Regional officials in Friuli Venezia Giulia have begun preliminary steps to evaluate a potential public takeover of the Arta Terme spa complex, a longstanding fixture in the Carnic Alps’ tourism economy.
Speaking before the Regional Council on Tuesday, the regional councillor for productive activities and tourism, Sergio Emidio Bini, said the administration, in coordination with PromoTurismoFVG, had initiated an initial review process aimed at securing the site’s future.
The current management contract for the facility is set to expire in April 2026, at which point ownership and operational control will revert fully to the municipality of Arta Terme.
Mr. Bini said that administrative assessments are underway to determine whether the region could assume control of the complex through its in-house tourism agency. The process, he noted, involves coordinating technical procedures, health regulations, and labor considerations tied to the facility’s workforce.
Any transition, if approved, would depend on the alignment of several parallel steps, including legal and administrative procedures, the potential rehiring or transfer of staff, and the acquisition of required health authorizations.
Regional officials said the effort would be supported by the development of a targeted industrial plan, intended to assess both the economic viability of the spa and its impact on employment. The plan would also seek to strengthen the broader tourism appeal of the mountainous area.
Mr. Bini framed the initiative as part of a wider strategy to enhance the region’s thermal spa sector, describing it as a potential driver of economic growth. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with local stakeholders to maintain service quality and ensure long-term sustainability.
