The Municipality of Trieste has unveiled the conceptual design for the Acquamarina therapeutic swimming center at Salotto Azzurro. The project, developed by Bologna-based architecture firm TECO+partners, is planned for construction within the city’s port area.
The presentation was attended by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, assessors Everest Bertoli (Financial Policies) and Elisa Lodi (Real Estate and Sports Policies), along with Andrea Brunetta, director of the Project Financing Service.
The facility is designed to integrate into the pierfront through a compact, regular-volume structure set on a raised base. Large glazed facades will visually connect the pool area with the surrounding port landscape, while all swimming and therapeutic functions will be located on a single, fully accessible ground-floor level.
The project includes four aquatic facilities: a thalassotherapy pool (25 × 10 m, depth 1.35–1.60 m); a pool dedicated to neurodegenerative conditions (12 × 6.5 m, depth 1.20 m); a rehabilitation pool (5 × 11 m, depth 0.80–1.20 m); and a vascular circuit (10 m, depth 0.80 m). Changing areas for general users, visually impaired individuals, and people with reduced mobility will be located on the mezzanine level.
The upper floor will house spaces for therapeutic exercise, physiotherapy treatments, and a panoramic refreshment area.
The design incorporates a range of energy-efficient and sustainable solutions, including a 132.6 kWp photovoltaic system, high-efficiency rock wool thermal insulation compliant with CAM 2025 standards, LED lighting, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, integrated natural ventilation, selective glazing, and fixed solar shading devices on exposed facades.
