The Scuola Primaria P. Trubar in Basovizza has completed a series of maintenance and renovation projects spanning from 2021 to 2025, aimed at improving both safety and energy efficiency.

On Tuesday, Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s councillor for real estate policies, joined Maurizio De Blasio, councillor for education and family policies, and Mara Petaros, principal of the Opicina Comprehensive Institute, to present the projects at a press conference at the school.

“We are pleased to share the work completed over these past years,” Ms. Lodi said. “Our first step in 2021 involved relocating the school temporarily, which required careful planning to ensure minimal disruption for the children. For the first time, we used prefabricated modules, which proved effective and practical. We are satisfied with the results and grateful to the Public Works Office and school staff for their collaboration.”

Mr. De Blasio emphasized the importance of safety and quality in educational environments. “These interventions ensure that students, teachers, and staff can learn and work in a safe and secure setting,” he said. “Each improvement represents an important step forward for the community.”

Ms. Petaros noted that the renovations required significant adaptability from students, parents, and staff. “The process was long, but thanks to everyone’s cooperation and patience, we reached the goal. Today, the school can fully enjoy its renewed spaces with a sense of security and well-being.”

The first project, carried out from January to June 2021, involved a complete overhaul of the school’s roof, including the installation of safety lines and replacement of lighting with LED fixtures. During this period, the school operated from a temporary prefabricated facility provided by Italspurghi Ecologia Srl at a cost of €177,400.

Between 2023 and 2025, the school underwent an energy-efficiency upgrade funded by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The replacement of exterior window frames improved the building’s energy class from F to E.

In 2025, the school’s facades were refurbished. Work included removing damaged plaster, resurfacing, repainting, and complementary upgrades such as sidewalk restoration, maintenance of the entrance canopy, replacement of the main door, and installation of new curtains.

The projects were carried out by local firms under the supervision of appointed directors and safety coordinators:

  • Roof renovation (Jan–Jun 2021) – €227,755; Benussi & Tomasetti SRL; Director: Arch. Giorgio Krecic.
  • Energy efficiency upgrade (Sep 2023–Oct 2025) – €205,210; Omnia Costruzioni SRL; Director: Arch. Luciano Lazzari.
  • Facade refurbishment (Jun–Nov 2025) – €199,167; Omnia Costruzioni SRL; Director: Geom. Stefano Zinnanti.

The total cost of the maintenance projects amounted to €632,133.
