In preparation for its role as Italian Capital of Culture 2027, the city of Pordenone is advancing a series of infrastructure and cultural initiatives aimed at strengthening both the city and its surrounding territory.
During a meeting at City Hall on Monday, Regional Councilor for Finance Barbara Zilli met with Mayor Alessandro Basso to review progress on key projects tied to the 2027 designation. According to Zilli, the discussion focused on long-term planning and on assessing investments that were launched prior to the national recognition but are expected to play a central role in the city’s preparations.
Officials highlighted a €7.9 million intermunicipal development plan financed by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region under Regional Law 7 of 2023. The initiative, led by the Municipality of Pordenone, extends beyond the city limits to include the neighboring municipalities of Porcia, Fontanafredda, Azzano Decimo and Spilimbergo.
The project seeks to coordinate economic development, design, innovation, tourism and historical preservation across a geographically and culturally diverse area. Planned interventions include the redevelopment of the Natural Park of the Ancient Walls in the historic center of Pordenone, as well as expanded communication efforts and the creation of a digital application intended to connect the city’s museums with cultural institutions throughout the surrounding territory. The goal is to create an integrated museum network and to facilitate access for residents and visitors.
Regional officials described the program as an effort to increase the area’s cultural visibility and accessibility while building on Pordenone’s established industrial and manufacturing base. With 2027 approaching, local leaders say the city is positioning itself to meet the expectations associated with the national cultural title.
