A new direct air connection will link Italy’s northeast with the southern Tyrrhenian coast beginning this spring, offering travelers in Friuli Venezia Giulia a faster route to Campania.
Starting May 24, 2026, the Italian carrier Aeroitalia will operate twice-weekly flights between Trieste Airport and Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, marking the first nonstop service between the two areas.
The flights, scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays, will be operated with 100-seat Embraer 190 aircraft. Departures from Salerno are planned for early afternoon, with return flights leaving Trieste later the same day.
For residents of Trieste and the surrounding region, the route provides a direct alternative to lengthy rail journeys or connecting flights, shortening travel time to southern Italy’s coastal destinations, including the Amalfi Coast and Cilento. Airport officials say the service is also expected to support business travel and tourism flows in both directions.
In a statement, Aeroitalia’s chief executive, Gaetano Intrieri, described the route as part of the airline’s broader effort to expand domestic connections and improve links between northern and southern Italy.
Fabio Gallo, chief executive of Trieste Airport, said the new service also marks the beginning of a partnership with the airline and could lead to additional routes in the future.
Trieste Airport serves as a gateway not only for the regional population but also for travelers from neighboring Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia, giving the new connection a wider catchment area beyond Italy’s borders.
