More than 700 costumed runners took to the streets of Trieste on Sunday morning, 8 February, for the annual Bavisela di Carnevale, a festive race that combined sport, charity, and Carnival tradition.

A total of 720 participants, many wearing elaborate masks and costumes, followed a route that began in Piazza Unità d’Italia, continued to the Giulia shopping center, and then returned to the starting point, passing through several central neighborhoods of the city.

Before the race began, organizers presented a charitable donation to the Burlo Garofolo Children’s Hospital Foundation. Pompeo Tria, president of Trieste Atletica, and Francesca Stefani of Apd Miramar, together with former organizer Emilio Porto, handed over a check for €6,949 to Gabriele Cont, president of the Burlo Foundation.

The funds were raised through registration fees collected during both the Bavisela di Natale, held in December, and the Carnival edition of the race. Organizers said the initiative reflects the event’s long-standing commitment to combining athletic participation with community support.
