On Monday, February 16, the city of Trieste will participate in “M’Illumino di Meno 2026,” the annual Italian initiative promoting energy conservation and sustainable lifestyles, organized by RAI Radiodue’s Caterpillar program.

As part of the event, the city, in collaboration with heritage association Italia Nostra, will host a special evening opening of the historic Hydrodynamic Plant in Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo. Two guided tours will take place at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., offering visitors a rare chance to explore the facility in near darkness, using flashlights provided by the municipality.

Tours will be limited to 50 participants, divided into two groups of 25, and will be led by representatives from Italia Nostra’s Trieste section. Reservations can be made via email at trieste@italianostra.org through February 10.

Built in 1890, the Hydrodynamic Plant remains largely intact with its original machinery, which historically powered the entire port area through 6,500 meters of underground pipelines.

In addition to the evening tours, the city will mark the occasion with the planting of two plane trees in the Muzio de Tommasini public garden earlier on February 16.
