The board of Aeroporto Friuli Venezia Giulia S.p.A., which operates Trieste Airport, has appointed Fabio Gallo as its new chief executive, the company announced on Wednesday.

Mr. Gallo succeeds to the role at a time when the regional airport is seeking to consolidate recent gains and pursue new growth initiatives. His appointment was approved during a board meeting held on Jan. 14.

An executive with a background in airport and infrastructure management, Mr. Gallo holds a master’s degree in business economics from the Carlo Cattaneo University (LIUC Business School) and an M.B.A. from IE Business School in Madrid. He comes to Trieste Airport after serving in senior roles at SOGEAAL, the company that manages Alghero Airport in Sardinia, where he oversaw operations, finance and traffic development. Earlier in his career, he worked at F2i SGR, one of Italy’s largest infrastructure investment firms.

In a statement, the airport’s board and shareholders welcomed Mr. Gallo, saying his experience would help guide the airport through its next phase of expansion and project development.

Antonio Marano, the president of Trieste Airport, said the new chief executive would provide continuity and leadership as the airport seeks to strengthen its position in northeastern Italy. “Fabio Gallo’s leadership will ensure the airport’s continued growth,” Mr. Marano said, adding that he had “full confidence” in the new management.

Trieste Airport serves as a key gateway for Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region that borders Slovenia and Austria and has been working to expand its international connectivity in recent years. With Mr. Gallo’s appointment, the airport’s owners signaled their intention to build on that momentum while advancing new commercial and infrastructure projects.
