Trieste will open the doors of its civic museums free of charge on Sunday, November 2, and Monday, November 3, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to explore the city’s cultural institutions at no cost. The initiative coincides with the first Sunday of the month and the feast day of San Giusto, the city’s patron saint.
Among the sites usually requiring a ticket that will be accessible free of charge are the Revoltella Museum, the Castle of San Giusto, the Carlo Schmidl Theatre Museum, the Diego de Henriquez War for Peace Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Visitors wishing to deepen their experience at the Castle of San Giusto may join a guided tour departing at 11:30 a.m. on both days; the tour remains subject to a €7 fee per person.
Several municipal museums already offer free entry year-round, including the Sea Museum and Lloyd Section, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquities, the Risiera di San Sabba memorial site, the Basovizza Foiba Documentation Center, and the Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan Shrine. Temporary exhibitions housed at Magazzino 26 are also consistently open to the public at no charge.
Temporary exhibitions not included in standard museum admission are excluded from the initiative. The major exhibition “Tolkien. Uomo, Professore, Autore” at the Salone degli Incanti will also remain ticketed.
Information on collections and opening hours is available on the individual museum websites and at triestecultura.it.
