Trieste Airport has begun work to modernize access to its terminal, a project that will include a new airport entrance and expanded cycling infrastructure. The upgrades, which take effect Wednesday, October 22, aim to streamline vehicle flow and integrate the airport with regional road and bike networks.

The project involves the construction of a dedicated bike path along the FVG2/d route on State Road 14 and the renovation of short- and medium-term parking areas adjacent to the terminal. Once completed, the improvements will provide a single, unified entry point for all vehicles accessing the airport, including short-stay terminal parking and the longer-term P1 and P2 lots.

In a later phase, airport officials plan to introduce a fully redesigned exit, also connected to State Road 14. The current internal roundabout will be replaced by new entrance lanes and the FVG2/d bike path, directly linking the town of Ronchi dei Legionari with the airport.

Construction crews are creating three separate lanes to safely segregate cars, bicycles, and pedestrian traffic. The new vehicle entrance will be located approximately 200 meters from the roundabout connecting SS14 with SS677 toward the Aeroporto Ronchi dei Legionari highway exit and the SR14–SP19 junction.

For cyclists, the upgrades include the C2V3 route—linking Monfalcone, Trieste Airport, and Aquileia—which will connect the airport to major regional bike networks, FVG2 (Adriatic Sea) and FVG1 (Alpe Adria). The path is expected to offer a safe route for riders and support combined travel by train and plane, utilizing the nearby intermodal rail stop.

Airport officials said the changes mark the start of a broader modernization of external areas and parking lots, with additional improvements planned in the coming months. Travelers and visitors may experience temporary disruptions during construction, the airport noted, thanking the public for their patience and understanding.
