The maternal and child health institute Burlo Garofolo in Trieste received two young patients early Monday morning as part of Italy’s humanitarian effort to evacuate civilians from Gaza.
The children, a boy and a girl aged 7 and 8, arrived at the hospital’s emergency department accompanied by their father. Their mother, who required medical attention, was admitted separately to Cattinara Hospital in Trieste.
The family landed in Verona before being transferred to Trieste by ambulance, a journey coordinated by the regional emergency services agency, Sores FVG. Once at Burlo Garofolo, the children underwent initial examinations and were admitted to the pediatric clinic, where further evaluations are scheduled.
Despite the difficult conditions they endured before leaving Gaza, doctors described the children’s health as generally stable.
Hospital officials expressed gratitude to the emergency and pediatric staff for their professionalism during the late-night admission.
