Trieste will once again take part in Sharper – The European Researchers’ Night on Friday, September 26, marking the eighth edition of the event in the city. The program, announced at a press conference by Maurizio De Blasio, Trieste’s councilor for education and family policies, and Serena Mizzan, director of the science center Immaginario Scientifico, is part of a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission.

The festival coincides with the opening of Trieste Next, the city’s annual science and innovation fair, reinforcing Trieste’s role as a hub for research and public engagement. “The city of Trieste consistently supports the promotion of both scientific and humanistic culture, seen as complementary and essential to collective and individual life,” Mr. De Blasio said.

From the afternoon into the evening, Piazza Unità d’Italia and surrounding areas will become an open-air laboratory, hosting meetings, performances, demonstrations, and hands-on experiments. Organizers expect more than 300 researchers to take part, with contributions from 18 partner institutions. The program includes 50 activities tailored for schools and around 20 public events designed to encourage dialogue between researchers and citizens.

Trieste is among hundreds of European cities staging the Researchers’ Night, one of the major outreach efforts organized under the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. Locally, the event is coordinated by Immaginario Scientifico in collaboration with the municipality and the network of research institutions that form Trieste Città della Conoscenza (Trieste, City of Knowledge).
