Regional authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia have issued a yellow weather alert for Tuesday, September 2, warning residents across the region to prepare for heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Meteorologists report that a broad Atlantic trough is approaching from the west, bringing humid southwesterly air currents at higher altitudes and southern winds at lower levels. Forecasts call for widespread cloud cover, with showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the day. Some storms could be strong or slow-moving, producing locally intense rainfall.

Moderate southerly winds are anticipated, with stronger gusts possible both along the coast and at higher elevations.

Conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, September 3, with more variable skies and clearer intervals along the coast. Light scattered rain may persist in the Julian Pre-Alps, forecasters said.

The alert is the latest in a series of advisories this summer as shifting weather patterns have brought sudden storms and heavy downpours to northeastern Italy.
