A wildfire broke out late Monday morning in a wooded area between San Giovanni di Duino and Medeazza, near Trieste. Firefighters reported that the blaze, which consumed roughly one hectare of land, was brought under control within an hour despite challenging conditions caused by strong winds.

Multiple firefighting teams responded, including forest fire units from the provincial commands of Gorizia and Trieste, a water tanker from Trieste, a duty officer, and two volunteer teams from the regional civil protection service. A civil protection helicopter was also deployed to assist with aerial suppression efforts.

Authorities said the flames were fully extinguished by early afternoon, and no injuries were reported. The S.S. 55 “Del Vallone” highway, which runs through the affected area, was temporarily closed in both directions as crews worked to secure the site and ensure there were no remaining hot spots.

Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
