In response to ongoing geological instability along a regional road in northeastern Italy, regional authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia have approved a plan to realign a section of roadway in Clauzetto, a small municipality in the province of Pordenone.
Regional Infrastructure Councillor Cristina Amirante announced the decision following the adoption of a resolution supporting the “short variant” design — a project aimed at mitigating hydrogeological risks caused by a landslide affecting the SR PN 22 road in Val Cosa. The intervention, estimated to cost approximately €2.75 million, was chosen after a comprehensive review of potential solutions.
“After evaluating all possible options, we identified the most suitable technical approach in terms of safety, economic sustainability, and environmental compatibility,” Amirante said.
The landslide risk was triggered by extreme weather events beginning in 2023, which destabilized sections of the road and raised concerns about public safety and traffic reliability. The approved plan involves a road shift that aims to restore secure passage through the area.
A separate resolution, also proposed by Councillor Amirante, addresses additional safety concerns in the region. Details of that measure are expected to be released in the coming days.
