Interviews: Michele Babuder, Trieste’s Councilor for Territorial Policies; Luca Vascotto, head of Environmental Services for AcegasApsAmga
In response to growing public participation, the City of Trieste and multi-utility company AcegasApsAmga have doubled the number of collection points for used cooking oil in the city’s street-side recycling areas, from 22 to 48.
The expansion follows the first anniversary of the initiative, which has seen residents dispose of over 14 tonnes of used cooking oil since the inaugural saffron-yellow container was installed. The program aims to prevent improper disposal of household oil, which can cause environmental harm and damage to sewage systems.
The announcement was made Thursday morning by Michele Babuder, Trieste’s Councilor for Territorial Policies, and Luca Vascotto of AcegasApsAmga’s Environmental Services division, during a press event on Riva Ottaviano Augusto.
