The internationally known Barcolana sailing event is branching out from its traditional maritime setting to embrace the natural beauty and sporting potential of Italy’s inland waters. Organizers announced the launch of Barcolana Lake Up, a new two-day event taking place on October 4–5 along the shores of Lake Cavazzo—also known as the Lake of the Three Municipalities—and the nearby Tagliamento River in the northern region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The initiative aims to bring the community spirit and outdoor sports focus of Barcolana to a lesser-known part of the region. The program includes cycling, rafting, and paragliding, as well as a small-scale sailing regatta featuring model boats—a nod to the original sea-based competition that draws thousands to Trieste each October.
Barcolana Lake Up joins the official calendar of Barcolana57 presented by Generali, which this year is also hosting events in Grado and Lignano. Organizers say the inland edition will highlight natural landscapes while promoting sustainable outdoor recreation and local engagement.
The event underscores Barcolana’s continued evolution beyond its roots in the Gulf of Trieste, bringing its message—of connecting people, passion, and place—to where “the sea begins.”
