This July, the historic Teatro Verdi in Trieste will present Il Suono di Trieste / The Sound of Trieste, a new open-air concert experience that invites audiences to explore the city’s imperial charm through music. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Castello di San Giusto, the event marks a highlight of the “Trieste Estate 2025” cultural season.
The premiere concert, scheduled for Wednesday, July 9 at 9:15 p.m., will take place in the castle’s Cortile delle Milizie, a historic courtyard overlooking the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding mountains. The evening will be conducted by Jacopo Sipari di Pescasseroli and features soloist Gianluca Littera on chromatic harmonica, joined by the Orchestra of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste.
The program blends cinematic classics and orchestral arrangements, beginning with Nuovo Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone in a harmonica and orchestra arrangement by Littera. It continues with a suite from Jurassic Park by John Williams, arranged by Calvin Custer; Pirates of the Caribbean by Klaus Badelt, arranged by Ted Ricketts; and Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, arranged by John Whitney.
Violinist Constantin Beschieru will perform selections from Schindler’s List—“Theme,” “Jewish Town,” and “Remembrances”—by John Williams. The evening concludes with the overture from Mary Poppins by Richard M. Sherman.
Organizers describe the concert as an invitation to “follow the music and discover the beauty of the imperial city between sea and mountains.” The initiative is part of a broader cultural effort to highlight Trieste’s historical and artistic heritage through accessible, high-quality programming during the summer months.
Tickets and additional event information are available through the Teatro Verdi website and local tourism offices.
