On Sunday, July 6, all civic museums in Trieste will offer free admission as part of Italy’s nationwide #DomenicaAlMuseo initiative, a program launched by the Ministry of Culture to promote access to cultural heritage. The initiative allows visitors to enter participating museums at no cost on the first Sunday of each month.

Trieste’s civic museums have confirmed their participation in the 2025 edition of the program, continuing their tradition of opening cultural spaces to the public without charge on these designated Sundays.

Among the institutions offering free entry this weekend are the Revoltella Museum, San Giusto Castle, the Carlo Schmidl Theatre Museum, the Diego de Henriquez War for Peace Museum, and the Natural History Museum. These are normally ticketed museums and will waive entrance fees for the day.

Additionally, several other museum sites in Trieste offer free entry year-round, regardless of the #DomenicaAlMuseo calendar. These include the Museum of the Sea, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquity, the Risiera di San Sabba, the Documentation Center of the Foiba di Basovizza, and the Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan Memorial. Temporary exhibitions held in the city’s municipal exhibition halls are also typically accessible free of charge.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by Italian cultural authorities to make art, history, and science more widely available, fostering public engagement with the country’s rich and diverse heritage.
