The City of Trieste unveiled a new public access point to the sea designed specifically for dogs and their owners along the Barcola waterfront. The area, dubbed “Bau Beach,” is located on Viale Miramare, just before number 72, and aims to provide a dedicated space for dogs to swim and play freely.

The new beach was presented Tuesday morning by Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s Councillor for Public Real Estate and Sports Policies. She was joined by City Councilor Lorenzo Giorgi, Giulio Bernetti, Director of the Public Works Department, and representatives from the design and construction teams, including engineer Ermanno Simonati of Mads Associati and workers from Ghiaie Ponte Rosso S.R.L.

While construction is still underway, city officials chose to open the area ahead of schedule to meet growing public demand. The beach will remain accessible throughout the summer, with a formal inauguration set for October following the annual Barcolana sailing regatta.

“This is a long-awaited space dedicated to our four-legged friends,” Lodi said during the press conference. “Although some finishing work remains, we felt it was important to provide early access for the benefit of animals and their owners during the warmer months.”

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the municipality to improve the city’s recreational infrastructure and promote inclusive use of public spaces.
