As part of the cultural program accompanying the international competition Il Piccolo Violino Magico, the acclaimed Singaporean ensemble Red Dot Baroque will perform in concert on Sunday, June 29 at 9:00 p.m. in the Church of the Battuti in San Vito al Tagliamento. Admission is free.
Titled “Stupore e Meraviglia” (“Astonishment and Wonder”), the performance marks a highlight in the lead-up to the prestigious competition, which begins on July 7 and draws young violin talents from around the world. The ensemble, under the direction of violinist Alan Choo, is Singapore’s first professional baroque group and is known internationally for its stylistic authenticity and expressive interpretations.
The concert program includes a rich selection of early music, such as Vivaldi’s “La Folia”, trio sonatas, and arias by Handel and Cavalli, as well as works by Merula, Corelli, and others. Red Dot Baroque’s appearance is part of a wider calendar of high-quality events created to engage the local community, international guests, and tourists in the days leading up to the competition.
Il Piccolo Violino Magico—conceived by renowned violinist Pavel Vernikov, who also serves as jury president—is organized by the Accademia d’Archi Arrigoni, with Domenico Mason as artistic director. Beyond its competitive dimension, the initiative aims to foster cultural exchange, offering young musicians and audiences the opportunity to experience music in a broader social and artistic context.
Sunday’s concert is expected to draw a wide audience, continuing the event’s tradition of combining artistic excellence with public accessibility in the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
