Elevated levels of ground-level ozone are expected to persist across the city of Trieste until at least Friday, June 27, according to forecasts released Monday by ARPA FVG, the regional environmental protection agency.

Concentrations of the pollutant continue to exceed the official attention threshold of 120 micrograms per cubic meter, a level that can pose health risks, particularly to sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with preexisting respiratory conditions.

The high levels are attributed to ongoing weather conditions, which are expected to remain stable through Thursday evening. Rain is forecast to arrive later that day, which may help reduce ozone concentrations.

The alert has been issued in accordance with the city’s Air Quality Action Plan, adopted in 2013, which calls for public notification when pollution thresholds are surpassed.

City officials urge residents—especially those in vulnerable health categories—to take precautions to limit exposure. These include reducing prolonged outdoor activity during peak ozone hours and staying in cool, indoor environments when possible.

Further guidance is available through a public health advisory issued by the local health authority, Azienda Sanitaria n. 1 Triestina.
