The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has welcomed a new collaboration with international football club Inter Milan, launching a summer training camp in Trieste aimed at fostering both athletic skills and social development among youth.

The “Day Summer Camp,” to be held from June 30 to July 11 at the Viale Sanzio sports grounds, will offer children an opportunity to train with coaches affiliated with one of Italy’s most storied football clubs. Regional Governor Massimiliano Fedriga praised the initiative as a model for summer programming that combines sports education with social and developmental goals.

“It is very positive that our young people can take part in such an engaging project in collaboration with a football organization of international stature like Inter,” Fedriga said at the program’s official presentation. “This is also a chance to thank the many associations that organize summer centers across Friuli Venezia Giulia in a wide range of sports, as well as Udinese [Calcio], which promotes a similar initiative.”

Fedriga emphasized that the regional administration has long supported summer sports initiatives, including financial aid aimed at families balancing work and childcare during the school holidays. “This measure allows families to better balance work obligations with private life, especially during the summer months when schools are closed,” he noted.

Beyond the physical benefits, Fedriga underscored the role of team sports in fostering character and community. “Thanks to these activities, young people learn how to be part of a team, to work hard in training, and to understand the meaning of defeat,” he said. “These are all experiences that help shape better citizens, not just better athletes.”

He also highlighted Friuli Venezia Giulia’s strong tradition in sports, calling it a “tremendous asset” for the region. Looking ahead, the governor announced plans to launch a new initiative promoting physical activity among working-age adults, with the dual goal of improving long-term health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

“Sport is an extraordinarily effective tool for prevention,” he said. “Summer camps are essential because they teach young people to engage in physical activity consistently, in a positive and enjoyable environment.”

The camp in Trieste marks another step in the region’s broader strategy to integrate sports into everyday life — not only for the young, but for citizens of all ages.
