Trieste is gearing up for the return of the Mitteleuropean Race, a three-day celebration of classic cars and cross-border camaraderie. The ninth edition of La Salita della Trieste-Opicina kicks off Thursday, reviving the historic hill climb from the Adriatic coast to the Karst Plateau.

More than 100 vintage vehicles—from gleaming Bugattis to roaring Lancias—will retrace the iconic route, drawing enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond. The race, now a fixture on the ACI Sport calendar, blends motorsport with cultural heritage, extending into neighboring Slovenia and spotlighting the region’s unique Mitteleuropean identity.

New this year is a focus on road safety, with exhibitions and workshops complementing the main event. Local food, wine, and scenic backdrops round out the experience, turning Trieste into an open-air showcase of speed, history, and elegance.
