The echoes of history will resurface on February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., when visitors gather in the Sala Fini of Magazzino 26 for a free guided tour of the exhibition Rovenska-Elettra: Memories from Marconi’s Yacht. Led by Anna Longo, a cultural officer with the city’s Scientific Museums, the tour will offer a rare glimpse into the storied past of a vessel that played a pivotal role in scientific innovation.
Originally launched 120 years ago under the name Rovenska, the yacht would go on to gain global recognition as Elettra, the floating laboratory of Italian physicist and radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi. Aboard this ship, Marconi conducted groundbreaking experiments that laid the foundation for modern wireless communication. Today, remnants of Elettra are dispersed across various Italian scientific and cultural institutions, their significance captured through a recent photographic campaign.
Drawing from the collections of Trieste’s Museum of the Sea, Longo will guide participants through an exploration of the yacht’s transformation, from an elegant private vessel to an icon of technological progress. The tour will not only showcase historical artifacts but also examine the ongoing preservation efforts surrounding Elettra’s remains.
Attendance is limited to 25 participants, and advance reservations are required by 12:00 p.m. on February 7, 2025. Interested visitors can secure their spot by contacting the Museum of the Sea at museomare@comune.trieste.it.
