One year after the closure of the San Giacomo and San Giovanni counseling centers, local residents and advocacy groups are voicing concerns over reduced access to family health services.

At a press conference organized by the Participation Committee for family counseling centers, supported by the activist group Non una di meno, speakers highlighted staffing shortages, limited services, and diminished community outreach stemming from the reorganization led by the regional health agency ASUGI.

Regional Councillor Giulia Massolino of Patto per l’Autonomia-Civica FVG, who attended the event, criticized ASUGI’s claims of improved services, stating that promises of better care have yet to materialize. “The reorganization has resulted in reduced access to essential services,” she said, adding that associations requesting clarification from ASUGI have received no response, despite legal obligations for engagement.

Councillor Massolino has filed an official request for data on service performance and plans to question the regional government about its handling of the issue. The closures remain a contentious topic in Trieste, with advocates warning of broader impacts on public health across the region.
