This December, Trieste’s Civic Museum of Natural History invites visitors to celebrate a significant paleontological milestone with a unique opportunity to explore the famous dinosaurs of Villaggio del Pescatore. Marking the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the site, the museum will host a special guided tour and a cast-making workshop for children on Saturday, December 7.
The guided tour, led by paleontology curator Deborah Arbulla, will take place at 11:00 AM in the museum’s dinosaur hall, which showcases the remarkable fossils unearthed in Villaggio del Pescatore. This exhibit, central to the museum’s collection, highlights the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the region, offering a fascinating look into Trieste’s rich paleontological history. The tour, designed for families, provides a deep dive into the past, giving both adults and children an engaging and educational experience.
At the same time, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, young visitors can participate in a hands-on cast-making workshop, where they will create their own fossil replicas. This activity, free with admission, provides a creative and interactive way for children to engage with paleontology.
The discovery of the Villaggio del Pescatore site in November 1984 marked a pivotal moment in the field of paleontology, uncovering fossils that have since provided valuable insights into the region’s ancient ecosystems. The museum’s anniversary event serves as a fitting tribute to this landmark find, offering an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
The guided tour and workshop are included with museum admission, but spots are limited. Visitors are encouraged to secure their tickets early for a chance to participate in this rare opportunity to learn about Trieste’s ancient past.
