Trieste’s Verdi theater invites everyone for an afternoon of words and music this Saturday, 30 September, at 4 pm, which will trace some of the salient moments in the history of Trieste in the post-World War II period.

The historian Luca G. Manenti will open the night with a conference entitled “The halberd and the compass. The rebirth of freemasonry in Trieste” during which, accompanied by the President of the Cultural Association “International Society of Dissemination Manlio Cecovini for the historical, social and ethical studies” Giuseppe Antonione and the Honorary President Luigi Milazzi, he will talk about post-war Trieste, looking at the political and cultural aspects of the Free Territory of Trieste (TLT). Manenti will examine the efforts made by those who wanted Trieste to return to Italy, based on recent research that has shown the methods used to achieve this goal.

This will be followed by music, all dating back to the TLT era, with the Ragtime Jazz Band concert, introduced and commented by Professor Marco Maria Tosolini. The ensemble – composed of musicians Gino Cancelli, Franco Valussi, Sergio Bernetti, Marko Čepak, Andrea Zullian and Igor Checchini – will play music by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Nate King Cole and Lelio Luttazzi and will be accompanied by the voice of Christel Di Candia and the Tip-Tap dancer, Greta Rizzotti.

The event – with free entry – is organized by the cultural association “Manlio Cecovini international dissemination society for historical, social and ethical studies”, with the contribution of the Municipality of Trieste.
