Beginning Thursday, Dec. 4, the Municipality of Trieste is opening reservations for the holiday edition of “VisitiAMO il Municipio,” a guided tour of Palazzo Municipale scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025.
The initiative follows the strong public response to the special edition marking the 150th anniversary of Palazzo Bruni last September, and once again invites residents and visitors to explore areas of the city hall that are normally closed to the public. The tour, conducted in Italian, includes the Sala del Consiglio, the Galleria dei Sindaci and the Salotto Azzurro.
Inside the council chamber, participants will have the opportunity to view Cesare Dell’Acqua’s monumental painting La prosperità commerciale di Trieste. The visit also includes the Galleria dei Sindaci, which displays portraits of Trieste’s podestà and mayors, and the Salotto Azzurro, a formal reception room notable for Hans Makart’s L’allegoria della navigazione.
A curated selection of documents from the city’s General Archive will be displayed in the council chamber for the occasion. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the view from the chamber’s windows overlooking Piazza Unità d’Italia, particularly striking during the holiday season with illuminated decorations and Christmas trees.
The event is organized in collaboration with volunteers from FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (Giovani FVG) and will include the participation of art historian Maurizio Lorber.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Bookings can be made online via Eventbrite—accessible through the announcement published on the municipal website—starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, unless places fill earlier. A maximum of two reservations per person is allowed.
