On Sunday, Nov. 23, the Chiarbola sports arena “G. Calza” will once again host one of the city’s most enduring cultural markets: the 23rd edition of the Mostra Mercato del Disco, CD & DVD Usato e da Collezione, a fair dedicated to used and collectible music items. The event, organized by the cultural association Musica Libera in cooperation with the Municipality of Trieste, will run continuously from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For more than two decades, the fair has drawn collectors, enthusiasts and curious visitors searching for rare records, vintage CDs, and hard-to-find formats. The range spans vinyl editions, picture discs, 33- and 45-rpm records, and specialty items featuring unusual artwork, embossed covers, 3-D images and shaped designs.

Around 70 vendors from Italy and abroad are expected, including exhibitors from Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary and Germany. A wide selection of international pressings will be available — from British editions, often considered the benchmark, to American releases that differ notably from their European counterparts. Japanese pressings, recognized for their precision and attention to detail, will also be represented, along with more obscure records from distant markets.

Visitors can browse music across virtually every genre: Italian classics, progressive rock, punk, funk, jazz, metal, disco, new wave, electronic music, classical and world music. Nostalgia seekers will find cartoon theme songs and 78-rpm shellac records, while memorabilia collectors can sift through posters, photographs, books, magazines, T-shirts, gadgets, VHS tapes and DVDs.

As in previous years, attendees are welcome to bring their own records to sell, trade or simply have appraised.

Several specialized labels will participate, including Black Widow Records of Genoa, BTF of Milan and Camelot/Ma.Ra.Cash of Vigevano, known for reissues of Italian progressive rock on both CD and vinyl. Exhibitors from former Yugoslav regions will offer sought-after 33-rpm titles from historic labels such as Jugoton of Zagreb and RTB of Belgrade.

Local shops will also be represented, including Trieste’s VinylOne and Red Moon Records from Ronchi dei Legionari. From Veneto, sellers such as Hole Records of Montebelluna and Underground Stars Records of Padua—focused on punk, hardcore, metal, ska and Oi—will join the lineup.

High-fidelity retailer Radio Resetti, a longstanding presence in Trieste, will return for the 2025 edition, presenting audio equipment from its renewed location on Via Petronio.

The fair will feature special guests and presentations, including Occulta Lunae Pars, a Latin rendition of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. The project, conceived by Nicola di Cristoforo of Pescara with lyrical adaptation by Valeria Casadio, has received official approval from members of the original British band.

Triestine author Giuseppe Vergara will appear to continue the presentation tour of his book Live in Trieste 1970–2024: 54 anni di concerti, recently published by White Cocal Press. The author will meet readers, answer questions and sign copies on site.

Admission is €6. The venue offers an indoor refreshment area and ample free parking.
