City officials presented the completion of a new nursery school housed in a prefabricated modular building at Villa Haggiconsta during a press conference on Tuesday.

The facility, designed to accommodate two existing nurseries—Semi di Mela and La Nuvola—provides temporary space while their original location on Via Paolo Veronese undergoes renovation. Together, the two nurseries serve 75 children.

The ground floor is now home to Semi di Mela, which includes four sections of children ranging from infants under one year old to toddlers up to age three. One section operates in Slovenian, reflecting Trieste’s bilingual heritage. In total, 60 children are enrolled. On the upper floor, La Nuvola hosts a single section for 15 older toddlers.

At the presentation, municipal leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity in early childhood education during renovation works. Among those in attendance were Elisa Lodi, Councilor for Real Estate Policies and Sport, and Maurizio De Blasio, Councilor for Education and Family, alongside municipal engineers and coordinators responsible for school infrastructure and educational services. Representatives from ITS Ecologia, the firm that carried out the project, also took part.

Officials said the prefabricated structure was designed to meet the safety and pedagogical standards required for early education, while offering a modern and functional environment for both children and staff.

This The original facilities of Semi di Mela and La Nuvola are scheduled to undergo restoration in the coming months.
