A peaceful demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. in Piazza Oberdan in Trieste, with the aim of calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the broader Middle East. The initiative has been organized by a broad coalition of civil society figures, including members of the Jewish community, journalists, and cultural and social leaders.

The organizers describe the event as a nonpartisan mobilization united under a single banner: peace.

Among the promoters are Mauro Gialuz, Milos Budin, Gianfranco Carbone, Nathan Levi, Pierluigi Sabatti, and Roberto Treu, who report that hundreds have expressed support for the cause, despite a now-closed petition on Change.org titled “End Massacres and Torture in Gaza. Peace Between Palestinians and Israelis” gathering 192 signatures.

The demonstration has received endorsements from a wide range of political, religious, and labor groups, including the local branches of Italy’s major unions—CGIL, CISL, and UIL—as well as ACLI, ANPI, and representatives of several political parties, such as the Democratic Party (PD), Azione, Sinistra Italiana, Verdi, Adesso Trieste, and the Five Star Movement (M5S).

Recent signatories include Maria Luisa Paglia (PD), Nicola Fadel (ACLI FVG), Fabio Vallon (ANPI), Paolo Salucci (Italia Viva), Riccardo Laterza (Adesso Trieste), and regional councilor Giulia Massolino (Patto per l’Autonomia), who also confirmed her attendance.

The march will begin in Piazza Oberdan and proceed through key points in the city, including Via Carducci, Piazza Dalmazia, Via Ghega, Via Roma, and Piazza della Borsa, before concluding with public remarks.

The initiative reflects growing local concern over the humanitarian toll of the conflict, as well as a desire to express solidarity with civilian populations affected by ongoing violence. Organizers emphasize the demonstration’s peaceful nature and inclusive message.
