Ski enthusiasts, take note: the picturesque region of Friuli Venezia Giulia is gearing up for a full-scale winter season launch this weekend. New lifts and slopes will open across the region starting Friday, December 13, offering skiers and snowboarders expanded access to some of the country’s best alpine terrain.

Saturday and Sunday mark the official start of the season in Forni di Sopra and Sella Nevea, adding to already-operational resorts like Piancavallo, Sappada-Forni Avoltri, Ravascletto-Zoncolan, and Tarvisio. Highlighting this weekend’s openings is the return of the Lussari cable car, which will carry skiers and sightseers to the iconic Monte Lussari.

Discounts Amid Partial Openings

In response to ongoing slope and lift preparations, discounted rates are being offered in four of the region’s resorts. At Piancavallo and Tarvisio, skiers can enjoy off-season pricing through Sunday before high-season rates take effect on Monday. Where less than 40% of slopes are open, reduced ticket prices will remain in place.

For instance, at resorts such as Sappada, Forni di Sopra, Ravascletto-Zoncolan, and Sella Nevea, daily adult tickets are priced at an enticing €21.50. Seniors pay €19.50, juniors and those over 75 ski for just €7, and children ski free. Starting Monday, rates will increase but remain discounted at partially operational resorts.

What’s New on the Slopes

Skiers visiting Piancavallo can look forward to the debut of several lifts and slopes, including the Busa Grande and Tremol1 chairlifts. Nevelandia, a family-friendly winter park, will also open its doors for the season on Saturday.

Tarvisio, another regional favorite, will introduce new slopes and lifts this weekend, including the highly anticipated opening of the Valle 1 and 2 carpets and the Tschopfen chairlift. Starting Saturday, visitors can ride the Lussari cable car and ski the scenic Di Prampero Alta trail.

At Ravascletto/Zoncolan, the Tamai 2000 chairlift will operate on Saturday and Sunday, joining an already robust lineup of open slopes and lifts, while the Forni di Sopra resort launches its Varmost 1 and 2 chairlifts and Senas slope.

For cross-country enthusiasts, the Carnia Arena in Forni Avoltri offers 2 kilometers of groomed trails, and Tarvisio’s Paruzzi Arena has 700 meters available.

Where to Stay Updated

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region’s tourism board offers real-time updates on slope openings, weather conditions, and ticket pricing through its interactive “Infoneve” platform. Skiers can also access detailed maps of each resort, complete with technical data, webcams, and dining options.
