Passengers traveling through Italy’s major airports on Friday, April 10, may encounter delays and cancellations as a nationwide four-hour strike in the aviation sector is set to take place between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The walkout, called by several trade unions including Uiltrasporti, FAST-Confsal and Astra, will involve employees of ENAV, the state-controlled company responsible for managing air traffic, as well as staff from Techno Sky, which oversees maintenance and operation of flight management systems.

According to union statements, the protest reflects concerns over workload, organizational restructuring and contractual protections, as well as rising operational costs linked in part to ongoing instability in the Middle East.

The disruption is expected to affect key air traffic control centers, including those serving Rome Fiumicino Airport, Rome Ciampino Airport, Milan Malpensa Airport and Naples Capodichino Airport. While the strike is limited to four hours, authorities warn that its impact could extend beyond the official window, with knock-on delays affecting flights later in the day.

Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, is expected to release a list of guaranteed flights closer to the date.

The strike is part of a broader wave of labor actions scheduled across Italy in April. Additional stoppages are planned in the press sector on April 16, private healthcare on April 17, and maritime transport across the Strait of Messina the same day.

Travelers are advised to check with airlines and airport authorities for updates.
