Natale Ditel has been appointed secretary general of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Orientale, the administrative body overseeing the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone. The decision was made Tuesday during the Authority’s first management committee meeting, chaired by President Marco Consalvo.

The appointment received unanimous support from all members of the committee, including representatives from the Coast Guard, the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, and the city of Trieste, signaling broad consensus for the selection.

A lawyer born in 1964 in Cagliari, Ditel brings decades of experience in Italian port administration. He previously served as secretary general of the Port Authority of Sardinia from 2018 to 2026, completing two consecutive terms. During that time, he oversaw technical and operational coordination, personnel management, union relations, and the integration of governance across Sardinian ports. Most recently, in 2026, he held the role of security director at the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, which includes the port of Genoa.

In announcing the appointment, President Consalvo highlighted Ditel’s technical expertise and familiarity with the daily operations of the port system. “His experience allows us to ensure continuity while also accelerating ongoing projects and activities,” Consalvo said.

Ditel is set to assume the position on April 13. He said he was honored by the appointment and expressed a commitment to working closely with port staff and the wider community. “The Trieste and Monfalcone port system is not only an Italian excellence but also a reference point in the international and European logistics landscape,” Ditel said. “I feel a strong responsibility to serve an institution that drives the local economy and connects to central and eastern European markets.”
