The 24th edition of the Trofeo Trieste running circuit was presented on Friday at the regional government headquarters in Piazza Unità d’Italia, marking the return of one of the city’s longstanding amateur sports traditions.

Speaking at the news conference, held at the Palazzo della Regione overlooking the Adriatic, Pierpaolo Roberti, the regional councilor for local authorities, said the event continues to have a “strong and positive impact” on the area, both athletically and socially.
The Trofeo Trieste, he noted, draws a broad range of participants — from competitive runners focused on improving their times to recreational athletes seeking a day outdoors — united by a shared interest in healthy activity and community engagement.
Organized by the Società Podistiche Riunite di Trieste, a consortium of local running clubs, this year’s circuit will include 10 races. It begins on April 12 with the Giro di San Giacomo and concludes on November 29 with the Carsolina Cross.
One of the defining features of the circuit, Roberti said, is the variety of its courses. The calendar includes road races, trail runs, and track events, spanning urban routes and the limestone plateau of the Carso. That diversity, organizers say, not only adds competitive interest but also allows participants to experience different landscapes of the Trieste area through sport.
Regional officials described support for such events as strategically important, citing their role in promoting public health and community life. Roberti also acknowledged the contribution of local sports clubs and volunteers, calling them the driving force behind amateur athletics in the region.
Also in attendance at the presentation were Elisa Lodi, sports councilor for the City of Trieste; Alessandro Orlando, sports councilor for the City of Muggia; Ernesto Mari, delegate of the Trieste committee of the Italian National Olympic Committee (Coni); and presidents of several of the sports associations involved in organizing the circuit.
