As Friuli Venezia Giulia moves to restore its provinces following a change to its special statute, the University of Trieste has signed an agreement aimed at helping local and regional governments navigate the transition.
The partnership brings together the university’s Department of Legal, Language, Interpretation and Translation Studies (IUSLIT), ANCI FVG — the regional branch of Italy’s National Association of Municipalities — and COMPA FVG, the training school for the region’s unified public sector.
The agreement calls for the university to help design and deliver advanced training programs for public officials, with a focus on the legal, organizational and managerial challenges linked to the new institutional framework. The university will contribute applied research, comparative analysis of governance models and specialized instruction, while supporting seminars, workshops and professional development initiatives.
University Rector Donata Vianelli said the collaboration strengthens ties between academic research and administrative practice at a time of institutional change. Gian Paolo Dolso, director of IUSLIT, said the department would provide scientific and teaching expertise tailored to the needs of public administrations.
Dorino Favot, president of ANCI FVG, and Rodolfo Ziberna, president of COMPA FVG, described the agreement as a joint effort to improve the organization and effectiveness of local governments.
Regional Councillor Pierpaolo Roberti and ANCI National Councillor Mirko Martini were among those attending the signing ceremony.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to align academic expertise with public sector reform as the region reintroduces an intermediate level of government.
